Dr. Michael Grant is a surgical oncologist who specializes in diseases of the breast.
He is board certified in general surgery with extensive, specialized training in breast surgery.

CLINICAL TRIALS AND STUDIES:

  • Principal Investigator for the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast Project (NSABP) clinical trials for Baylor Scott & White Medical Center. The NSABP is a nationwide cooperative research group conducting studies dedicated to finding treatment for and reducing incidence of breast cancer. Under Dr. Grant’s leadership, Baylor became one of the leading institutions in recruitment of participants for the NSABP’s STAR Trial, the Study of Tamoxifen and Raloxifene.

  • Investigator of Gamma-Probe Guided Resection of the Sentinel Lymph Node in Breast Cancer, a prospective study that helped to usher in a new era of breast cancer staging in Dallas

  • Investigator in the Breast Fine Needle Aspiration Study of women at high risk for breast cancer

 

PUBLICATIONS/MEDIA:

  • Author of numerous peer-reviewed medical journal articles and local media publications regarding the treatment of breast cancer

  • Dr Grant is often called upon by local news media to address issues pertaining to breast cancer treatment and prevention.

Education and Training 

 

Dr. Grant received his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University and medical school training and degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He then fulfilled five years of residency requirements in general surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Following his residency, he was chosen to spend an additional year of specialized training through the Seeger Fellowship in Surgical Oncology of the Breast at Baylor University Medical Center, an opportunity afforded to only a select group of nationwide applicants.

Dr. Grant has been in private practice at Baylor since 1993.  

Personal

 

Dr. Grant and his wife reside in Dallas where together they raised two sons and continue to enjoy the company of family dogs. Their older son is a graduate of Baylor University and  Texas A&M College of Medicine, and is currently completing his Emergency Medicine residency at UT Southwestern in Dallas. Their younger son graduated from West Point and is currently a Captain in the United States Army, serving as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal officer. Family and faith are extremely important to Dr. Grant. He has spent the last 29 years not only committed to the practice of medicine, but also to his wife, sons and the Lord. Dr. Grant is honest and forthright with his patients and believes in the importance of communicating any and all information necessary for his patients to make good medical decisions concerning their own personal diagnoses.

Dr. Grant is well respected in his field and has developed an outstanding working relationship with colleagues in the medical profession. As a result, his patients have direct access to the highest quality medical and radiation oncologists, radiologists, plastic surgeons, and trained support counselors.
